The Host Should Not Be A Competitor Previous | Next

In a forum, a blog and a personal message to me, Pather DID wrote:

“To my knowledge the CEO, Admin, Promoters and the employees of path10 should not have the right to have points and shares...If they are interested to promote the site. They have to do it with out obtaining the shares, because they are the major shareholders of the profit. No need to show green donation beakers beside their MEMBERSHIP ICON. THE HOST SHOULD NOT BE A COMPETITOR.
It can be decided by the common poll. My request should be granted and awarded 100 points. If I wrote any thing wrong, I beg pardon.”

This is what I think:

I am not sure we need to create two class of members just because of a few points especially since all the points earned by the second group go to an endowment fund that will ultimately go to those who need it the most.

Despite my comment above, I see certain merit in what Pather DID writes. I think we should split the comment in two (2) parts so that we can deal with the issues separately and fairly.

  1. Let us first deal with the employee group. These are people who have no reason to be excluded. Path10.com is not a lottery. It is a social networking site and they have all the reasons to be part of it. They can benefit as members as long as they are not receiving any unfair advantage. They are not earning from the site as members during working hours and what they do after their working hours is totally voluntary. They can choose to spend their leisure time on what ever they choose. If they go on the site on their time, it is proof that they believe in the site and not because they are in it only for the money. I hope all of us can agree on that.
  2. The second group includes the administrators and the initiator of the site. They have to work on the site at all hours. Should they be members, I think so. How else would they find problems and solutions or ideas for the development of the site?

The tricky part, however, is to decide weather they should benefit from the site. Before we discuss that part, there is another element to consider. One issue is the points given for uploading and the other one is points received for viewing. I am of the opinion that the members of this group should receive minimum stars for each upload. This will ensure that they are not getting favours from the moderators that they appoint. This will allow them to give a certain leadership and direction to the site with their submissions.

The points for viewing are given by viewers. If Pathers chose to view and thereby give points to any one, it is up to them. In any case, all points received by this group go to charity and not to themselves. They are not personally benefitting from their participation.

I hope this makes sense. I am open to hearing other opinions. We, as a group, are open to being convinced to the contrary. The ball is in your court.
