I am a student at a university and major
in Advanced Musical Research. Our College of
Arts and Music have tied up with the Colelge
of Medical Science and I am studying the
medicinal properties and healing wonders of
music. Music is an integral part of our life,
a prime component that is inherent to the
world that we live in. Birds sing songs as
the wind and streams whispers ancient
melodies since time immemorial and we cannot
deny the relaxing properties and calming
effect of the sounds generated by nature. A
life without music is simply drab and and
void of color and would be undoubtedly
unbearable for us.
Classical music had also been tested and
proven to be beneficial for the brain and
artistic development of babies and young
kids. My sister's baby was usually cranky in
the mornings but when I started playing
classical pieces from Bach, Beethoven and
Mozart, she was more relaxed, adaptive and
interested in the environment around her. It
facilitates creativity and improves the
mental faculty of young children and I
convinced my sister to always play classical
music around her kids to help them grow
smart, creative and logical.
Now when I am not writing essays, research
transcriptions and medical journals for
school, I volunteer down at our local
hospital specifically in the pedia ward. I
bring my radio with me and a couple of choice
CDs of classical music gems and I play them
softly for the young patients. I hope to
prove someday that music can be very helpful
in the recuperation of patients from their
illness and that it will help them relax and
take their mind off their worries and pain,
on the road to total recovery.
